By: Stanley Yun Kai Fok

Programming languages are constantly updated every so often which means there will forever be new concepts to learn in Computing. In this post, the fundamental concepts of 'modern' programming languages will be explained. These are commonly used behind most websites, applications, software, etc. in today's world.

(Khuansuwan, 2022)

HTML - is a programming language primarily used for website creation that can be viewed by anyone accessing the internet. It is considered one of the basic programming languages, making it relatively easy to learn. The creativity you can exert is limitless which makes the language itself powerful. (Shannon, R., 2012)

CSS - also known as Cascading Style Sheets, is a programming language in which there are more utilities to use in order to make a more efficient and professional-looking website. It provides multiple ease of access to web developers and designers. (Mansfield, R., 2005)

Javascript - is a computing language coming from the prototype model NTM99. It is a high-level language. It is best known for its function as a scripting language on the web. In detail, it has a faster execution time per command making coding quicker. It is primarily used for creating web browsers and applications. (Mikkonen, T. and Taivalsaari, A., 2007)

Python - is a high-level language. It is an object-oriented language meaning it is based on the idea of objects or concepts in the real world. It is often used to build websites and software applications and is considered to be a general-purpose language. (Downey, A., 2012)

Ruby - is both an object-oriented and high-level computing language making it complex. It is mainly used to produce web applications. Additionally, it has gotten inspiration from other programming languages such as Lisp, Smalltalk, and Perl. However, it has adapted to a much simpler grammar making it easier for Java and C programmers to learn. (Flanagan, D. and Matsumoto, Y., 2008)
